i picked this as art because the hand rendered type was purposely made for the words overfishing and devastating. i think that the letters even look like fish bones. i really like this and i think that it is good for type as art because the ambigram itself is an artwork.

i found this in sharadin. it is a students art work. today.

i chose the t in blue mountain as my rebus. I like that not only does the t create a skier, but the logo is also recognizable as blue mountain without the words. i found this in sharadin last week on the flyer for blue mountain ski resort.

Inspirational

i chose this as inspirational because it symbolizes many things. HOPE itself is strong and bold, and symbolize hope for the U.S but also symbolizes hope for racial equality. i also like that the O is an american flag, in a circle, symbolizing unity.

good type gone bad

this is a bad type because the stroke closes all the bowls, and the kerning is horrible. the letters are falling over and it just looks bad.

i chose the ligature between the w and i in drawing on my drawing tablet. I like this ligiture because it only happens with some fonts, when the i has a top serif. i found it on my drawing pad, today.

i chose the weis sign for poor kerning because the kerning is so bad. the e and i are so close together and the s is in la-la land out there. this is disgusting i hate it. and the stroke around it is bad too.

i chose the Letterman's Diner sign as the worst type in KU. I hate this sign because when you are driving you can't even read the beginning of Letterman's because its too small. i also hate that the kerning looks horrible, like between the E and T. the third thing i hate about this is that the bowls in the letters are so small you can hardly see them in the smaller letters especially the A. i final thing that makes this sign bad is the stupid dot in the I of diner. why arent there dots anywhere else? i also think that the tracking between the 2 words is kinda funky. this sign is on main st in Kutztown. i took it on thursday at 6... but its there all the time :)

The image i chose for this assignment was a flyer hanging in Sharadin promoting a show for a student in Bethlehem. I chose this flyer to represent the Expressionist period of type history because of its ugliness. This flyer was created by hand and mass produced for advertising. Although the font is hand written and poorly created, it shows a lot of emotion. It also has the conventional primary colors of expressionism, using only black and red. Although this flyer is not attractive, it surely attracted my attention, and I believe the artist purposely made it that way.

I took this picture today in sharadin above the water fountain.

Natural Letter

The object I chose was the coffee pot in my room. I chose this object because I always liked the shape of the handle and pot. It's very different from most regular coffee pots. The letter that the coffee pot handle forms is the letter "C". I also liked this shape because where the handle and the pot meet looks like a barb.
